Belfast is located in the heart of Maine's central coast, and in 1996 received a Gemmy award as one of America's premier destinations. It's easy to see why. Belfast is nestled along the rocky shoreline and rolling countryside in Waldo county, near picturesque Penobscot Bay. Once a shipbuilding center, Belfast today is a mix of old-fashioned redbrick Victorian architecture, lively waterfront, and affordable lodging and dining. Shopping in Belfast is an eclectic mix of unique boutiques, antique shops, thrift shops and other family run businesses offering one-of-a-kind gifts and collectibles. Belfast is also known for their exceptional art galleries and crafts shops. . . Nearby Moose Point State Park is ideal for hikes and picnics overlooking Penobscot Bay, and other outdoor recreation includes biking, swimming, kayaking, fishing and golf . . . --MaineVacation.com |
