![]() ![]() "For those who enjoy being in the middle of a wide waterway and feel the rhythm of the waves, the Brittany is a dream come true. With a slicy waterline and rockered keel, this seaworthy boat is fast and comfortable to paddle on various conditions and terrains, ranging from the flat water to the most animated coasts and channels you may want to venture on. Its forgiving and stability-granting wide round chine makes it a sound choice for the fitness paddler as well as for the weekend explorer." --Riot Kayaks The Riot Brittany fits the mold of the rough water playboat. If your gig is playing in surf, rock gardens, waves, or hugging a rocky coastline, this could be the kayak for you. And if you want to be able to get from place to place in a hurry or have a boat that is efficient over the long haul, the Brittany could still be the boat for you. The Brittany fills a similar market niche as the Tempest, Chatham, and Avocet, but it is much more than a playboat. The Brittany has sharp deep ends and a slightly less than moderate amount of rocker. This combined with a soft-chine and its 16.5 foot length, results in a boat that is very neutral in winds and yet still turns easily. Paddling an unloaded Brittany in 15 knot winds the other day, I was unable to get it to weathercock -- the bow stayed true no matter what my course, and I had no need to deploy the skeg. My favorite thing about this boat is the great balance of tracking and responsiveness. The Brittany turns readily when put on edge and overall has a very sporty and responsive feel. I also found the Brittany surfed small waves as well or better than any sea kayak I've paddled in those conditions. Outfitting on the Brittany is first rate. Aggressive adjustable thigh braces as well as adjustable seat and hip pads are standard. The Brittany also includes a dayhatch and ample well-placed deck lines. A pretty and durable boat -- and one that will serve many purposes. -- Ray Wirth Features: Adventure Contour Fit Outfitting System Adjustable Thighbraces Quick-lock adjustable footbraces Sealed front & rear dual density hatch covers Fore & aft minicell sealed bulkheads Watertight day hatch with minicell bulkhead Bow shockcord storage Quick-clip rescue outrigger system Lifeline Interior gear net Water bottle Paddle hook & security bar Color shown: Crimson with optional integrated retractable skeg Specifications: Optimum paddler weight range 150-230 lbs / 68-105 kg Length: 16' 6" / 503 cm Depth: 12.75" / 30 cm Cockpit Rim: 31.5" x 18.75" / 80 x 48 cm Stern hatch: 15.75" x 8.13" / 40 x 21 cm Stern volume: 28 US gal / 106 L Bow hatch: 15.75" x 8.13" / 40 x 21 cm Bow volume : 18 US gal / 495 L Day hatch: 5.5" dia. / 14 cm dia.
